#10. Pride and Prejudice

Note: Slowly, but surely, I'm finishing the countdown! Sorry for the wait!
I'm going to be blunt. A good romance film is hard to find. I've usually found that studios must either sacrifice good cinematography for better writing, or trade in a good plot for a few extra laughs. Add that the romance is a literary adaptation and you've got a formula that can go wrong on many levels. Thankfully, the cast and crew of Pride and Prejudice found the perfect blend. The film breaks the top ten of my list...

10. Pride and Prejudice

Jane Austen, an English novelist, has penned many masterpieces with a unique wit and biting social commentary. She has earned her place as one of the most read English writers of all time. Of all the novels, Pride and Prejudice is the most beloved. Originally titled First Impressions, the story is one that people can relate to and find comfort in. I can only hope that no woman suffers under the thumb of such an overbearing mother.

Favorite Scene: When Mr. Darcy and the Bingley siblings make their grand entrance, commanding the entire room's attention. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy see each other for the first time... It's fascinating how quickly their distaste for one another took shape within that short time. Both fell victim to their pride and prejudice as the chasm became more pronounced between class, family, gender, and education. Director, Joe Wright, captured these scenes so brilliantly. It felt like a small part of the Victorian era was plucked out of time and placed into our screens.

Rating: ********* (9 out of 10)

Nice blog and photos! I just thought I'd mention that Pride and Prejudice does not show any part of the Victorian era. It's pure Regency.
It's nice how Hollywood has gotten more accurate in its costume department, too!
Have you seen the 1995 P&P? Now, that's pure bliss!
